Highlights & Lowlifes
Jul. 25th, 2005 03:06 pmThat was the week that was...
My computer at home is on the fritz (Hellpp!! Reynardooo!!!), so I'm hopelessly behind on various e-mails & other things that need updating regularly. Plus... what a week! Bought a new car (well, arranged all the finance - Ford Credit still own most of it), set up a trade show, stood around & talked to people for 12 hours at a trade show, packed up after a trade show...
Went to a 'War Of The Worlds' themed party after the show on Saturday. Fortunately it was based more on the Jeff Wayne musical than the Cruise/Spielberg hatchet job. We spent most of it in the back yard of this terrace house in Balmain, standing beside a large fire, which kept about 25 of us warm... if not roasted... & also smoked (my clothes have been airing on the clothesline since yesterday morning). At least wood smoke smells better than stale cigarette smoke. I got to meet a violin player I’ve seen & heard in a couple of bands – when she & her boyfriend turned up, she looked at me & said “Peter, this is Phil.” Given that my name’s not Peter... or Phil, I’m not sure which of those names was her partner’s either, but it was a good conversation starter on her part - considering we'd never met before.
Alas... as the poet sang 'All of the good ones are taken...'
We ended up giving 2 Bulgarian guys a lift into town at about 3.30am... they tried to convince us to come to a party that was celebrating Colombian National Day... or something (probably the reason the party was still going was that it was being fuelled by Colombia’s most infamous export product), but I not-so-politely declined... when I’m really tired, I can get slightly irritable...
Yesterday by 11am, I was driving & walking around various places, organising the delivery of the new car (Wednesday), my new lounge suite (Thursday) & trying to replace my loungeroom heater (Tuesday). Add a dinner with the family to that & by 10pm last night I was a shambling, grumbling zombie.
Fortunately, so is everyone else around here today... for their own varied reasons. Nobody likes a one-day weekend.
