So, it's 4.27 in the morning & something wakes me up...

Whether it was a noise the house doesn't usually make, or my sixth sense kicking in, I don't know... but I opened my eyes & there was a light moving in my lounge room. A torch light.

Who's that??!! I say - instantly awake.

A crash of CD & video cases & the light heads out of the lounge room.

Hey!! Who the fuck are you!!! I shout as I leap out of bed & take off after him ( I assume it was a him). The front door slams & by the time I get to it a couple of seconds later, there's already no chance of catching him. By this point the family upstairs are awake & clamouring at the stairs wondering what's going on...

Turns out he'd come in through my kitchen window (protected by a silver spoon?? Beatles fans), & must have gone straight to the front door & opened it to secure an escape route, then come into my loungeroom... with a torch on. 'Cause, when I 'disturbed' him, he went straight to the front door - no blundering about - he knew exactly where it is.

For those of you unfamiliar with my house, I live on the ground floor of the family manse, with my parents & sister upstairs. It's really 2 houses on top of each other, as both are self-contained, with a staircase connecting the 2 levels next to my front door. This guy must have come in thinking that all the bedrooms are upstairs - mine isn't... it's tucked away in the far corner of the 'apartment', out of sight unless you're really looking for it. He obviously wasn't...

I would imagine it was brown trousers time for him when I spoke in the dark... I'm amazed he didn't say anything... not even a yell of surprise. He must have thought he'd hit the motherlode when he walked in. My guitars & amp were in the middle of the floor, where I'd dumped them after coming home from the Joshua gig at 1.30. There are CDs & DVDs all over the place, more hifi equipment than you would believe necessary (it all is...) & a reasonably good computer & associated hardware in a room just off the entrance hallway.

Short break while the police are here...

Anyway, the good thing is he didn't get anything - Mother saw him running down the road carrying nothing but a torch. Best description... tall... thin... Which is better than I managed - all I saw was the torch...

Fingerprint team is coming tomorrow to check out the window & the 2 bottles of dishwashing liquid he moved to climb in.

I would imagine I'll sleep very lightly tonight... Thank god I'm a light sleeper anyway... I hate to think of losing any of this stuff...
