'Tis The Season
And so, into the silly season we go...
A quick wrap-up of the last few days: The Christmas party gig went reasonably well. Some sets were better than others, personally speaking, the low point being Daylan's set. Under-rehearsed & relying on luck & old backing tracks we hadn't played or listened to for too long, we started strongly but finished badly. ZenSiren's set of originals & covers went well, though a last-minute arrangement change robbed some songs of their intended atmosphere. No big deal ~ it was the only set of the night which had an encore demanded, for which we weren't prepared, so re-did one of the songs... The RokChikz band was probably the best rehearsed of the night & so played almost without hitch, though due to a timing/cuing problem, one song was... shall we say... 'interesting' in its on-the-spot rearrangement. The No Pulse band's Pink Floyd covers set was another victim of under-rehearsal, but still sounded raggedly okay...ish ~ a credit to Ron the BassBeast's first public foray as frontman/guitarist. Dave Gilmour wouldn't have had cause to order a contract on me... I was alright.
Other than that I've been at work for lots of hours ~ both officially & unofficially (read: unpaid overtime). Lots of heavy lifting, sweating & swearing, arriving home either too tired to do much, or running on nervous energy & racing off to various rehearsals & personal commitments when I could manage them.
No word on the latest desired job, which most likely means no result. I'm getting dangerously used to that...
Too much time spent chasing thoughts around vicious cycles in my mind, resulting in very little sleep. Combined with the very physical demands of the dayjob, it leaves me tired, stressed, frustrated & unsettled. Which means I don't sleep & thus.........
Looking back on the year, I'm not happy.
As we say in the inglorious world of retail, have a merry 2 days off.

From the audience the Daylan set came accross well for the most part - the backing tracks let you dowm - you may have been better off without them, but never mind, the skillful and tasteful playing made up for it.
ZenSiren was awesome! I REALLY enjoyed playing along on a couple of songs - pitty we didn't get to rehearse them.
I know all about being in a job you hate and not being able to get out - it sucks big time. Lesser men have let it get to them and their thoughts have turned to the dark side. Don't let it turn you - something WILL come eventually, even if the wait is frustrating. Keep pushing those doors...
