Multiple Choice

Is Karaoke:

A) Singing in the shower gone public
B) The ancient rite of the pub sing-along taken one step too far
C) The execrable, performed by the insufferable, resulting in the unlistenable
D) All of the above & so much more... or less

Concerning singing: those who can - do. Those who could - teach. Those who can't teach - audition for Australian Idol. Those who fail the Idol auditions - head straight for the nearest Karaoke night, where they can share their pain, suffering & dysfunctional personalities with their similarly damaged peers... And the odd, unsuspecting midweek drinker, who will either stagger away at great speed, or be seduced into thinking they can channel Old Blue Eyes himself for yet another rendition of My Way. The scattered applause, ranging from polite, to desultory, to ecstatic (if there are friends in the 'audience'), is a blissful narcotic & one hit is never enough... Cue the opening strains of Bohemian Rhapsody

And yet, there we were, my singer & I - experiencing the weird-but-not-wonderful world in all its 'glory'. The fragile voices... the even more fragile egos... the belligerent "What are you lookin' at?!" attitude of the regular clientele towards the uninitiated...

Having seen all this... Knowing all this... WHY did I feel the overwhelming urge to get up & sing Handbags & Gladrags?? And since when has my singer been such a big fan of Whitney Houston??!!

Unanswerable... rhetorical.

So dammit, Karaoke night some time when we're all together? I've only ever done it once.

Sure.

Though we should make sure that [livejournal.com profile] madcowmoo is there if she's up to it. Last I heard, she had impressive karaoke skills. *grin*

You're unhinged... the pair of you.

I like that in a person...

Goes off to practise long-forgotten scales & look up the words to 'Khe Sanh'...

You CAN'T be a real Australian if you don't already know the works to "Khe Sanh".

I prescribe a diet of 2MMM.

That's one more than me... I've always wanted to try it, but never had a group of people who were also enthusiastic (that I know of) in the same city.
