Who are second and third one in your top guitar players list?

Eric Clapton - for being the reason I started playing in the first place & Robert Fripp are the other two...

I guess I'll have to promote Adrian Belew (also featured in the Robert Fripp linked song) into the vacant 3rd slot now

How about Jimmy Hendrix, Jimmy Page and Ritchie Blackmore?

I like Page, Hendrix & Blackmore... & have plenty of music by all of them, but they never affected me the way the top 3 did. Blackmore & Page are both incredible players across different styles, but I don't feel any kind of connection to them

I'd put Blackmore's replacement in Deep Purple - Steve Morse - above him in my list, as I think Steve has a bit more emotion in his style... & it probably doesn't help that everyone who is asked about Ritchie Blackmore talks more about what an awful person he is than they do about his playing!

I like Jimmy Page as a composer - the songs are great! - but his playing doesn't have any kind of individuality about it... it could be anyone. Robert Plant is the one who gives Led Zeppelin its personality

Growing up, all the rock'n'roll kids were nuts about Hendrix, but I've never really seen what all the fuss was about. The wah pedal was used better by Clapton, the feedback & tremelo or 'whammy' bar tricks were all ripped off from - guess who - Jeff Beck... He's a great player though... look what he can do to a Chuck Berry song!!
