For the few curious... a better-balanced view of my Status Quo Vadis. Little steps taken forward...
I have a gig coming up in early October, with a long-time collaborator I couldn't quite say "No" to during my supposed retirement from music this year. The 'show' will be a quasi-cabaret/spoken-word/dance/song-cycle with original songs & some covers ranging from 1930s drug songs to Nick Cave... Should go for about an hour ~ which will be interesting, since the last few gigs I did ranged from 15-30 minutes. I wonder if I'll get tired?
So, a return to the stage... following on from a return to recording last month when I did some keyboard parts for a soundtrack... yes, keyboards... I'm a hack of all trades. There's also another recording project moving slowly in the mist ~ blurry, indistinct & in an as-yet-unknown shape.
The gig is another return for me, as it will be the first time I've worked with a programmer/keyboard player since I walked away from the late, unlamented Joshua band in late '06. Given that my first band was an ambient/electronic/experimental/proto-industrial/dub outfit, I've kind of missed bouncing guitar sounds off unconventional walls. It should (hopefully) be fun.
Still can't come 'round to the idea of forming another band of my own though... Too much trouble for not enough reward.
Found out today that I probably won't get a day off work 'til either late next week, or early the following one. My mind is currently hosting a battle royal between Mammon & Morpheus to see if I need money more than days off.
Much as I hate to face it, Mammon's winning. Hell, I've only had one day away from Debtors Prison since my return from myparole holiday on the 19th of August... I think I'm now institutionalised to the point where I wouldn't know what to do with a day off if I had one...
Edit: And here's the score in Texas at the moment ~ one of the best photo galleries I've seen.Wish I was there with my camera!!
