I Hate To Admit This, But...
A disgusted SarinG bought me the latest My Chemical Romance album for Christmas ~ "The Black Parade". I'd heard 2 songs from it & liked them, so made my distressing request. She gave it to me during our post-Christmas dinner in Manly on Thursday night, along with 2 incredibly Emo design t-shirts & a copy of the latest book from PostSecret.com* & made pointed reference to not allowing me anywhere near razor blades or sharp knives. I think she believes me lost to the Emo ethos (best summed up during the year by some Emo kid who said he wanted to be a Goth, but couldn't afford the clothes!!). This evening, having returned from a rather hot, busy & unpleasant day at work, I put on the album, cranked the volume to 'Manor-shaking level & let rip.
I F@$KING LOVE IT!!!
Big, brash, noisy, tunefully layered, subtly funny, well-played, big catchy chorus hooks & a guitar sound that punches you in the face. As for the lyrics, there's nothing more self-pitying or whingeful than anything Alice In Chains, Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins & a host of British bands too numerous & miserable to mention have done before now.
Definitely a contender for Album Of The Year in my book.
*And a copy of Season 4 of 'Scrubs' ~ probably as an antidote...
